Powder Charging

Step 8 of 10 · Throw and weigh charges accurately, every time.

← Reloading A-Z: all steps

Select a powder listed in your load data for your cartridge and bullet weight. Start at the published starting charge, never above it, and only increase in small steps while watching for pressure signs.

Charges can be thrown with a powder measure and checked on a scale, or dispensed with an automated system that trickles to an exact weight. For precision work, weigh every charge. Verify your scale with check weights at the start of every session.

Keep only one powder on the bench at a time, empty the hopper back into its original container when finished, and visually check that every case in the loading block has powder before seating bullets.
