Priming
Step 7 of 10 · Seat every primer fully and consistently.
Choose the primer type and size specified in your load data, such as small or large rifle, standard or magnum. Do not substitute primers when working near maximum loads without starting over.
Seat primers fully, to the bottom of the pocket and slightly below flush with the case head. A high primer can cause misfires or slam fires, while crushing the primer can change ignition. Many shooters prefer hand priming tools for feel and consistency.
Handle primers with clean, dry hands, keep them away from oil, and never force a primer that does not want to seat. Discard any case with a loose or damaged primer pocket.
