MOST Rimfire Finale: Where the Midwest Tests Its Mettle

I could not escape it. Everywhere I looked the MOST Rimfire Finale was being shared, reposted, and talked about. At first I thought it had to be a national championship, the kind of event you plan a season around. The Finale was everywhere, backed by a sponsor list that looked more like a championship than a regional shoot. That curiosity pushed me to dig deeper, and I am glad I did, because whoever makes it to Pittsburg this October is in for a heck of a day.

The Missouri Steel Tactical Rimfire Series is not just another league. It is older than the Precision Rifle Series itself and is widely considered one of the one of the longest running precision riffle clubs in the country . With the season winding down, MOST now turns its focus to the Finale, an event that is shaping up to be one of the largest and most competitive one day rimfire matches in the nation.

The Heart of MOST

Eight ranges across Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Iowa now carry the MOST banner, with a ninth on the way. 196 shooters filled the 2025 season. Some are seasoned, some brand new, but all are chasing the same thing: points, progress, and pride. The Finale carries double weight with 200 points on the line, and only the best three scores count toward standings. It is a format that rewards grit rather than luck.

This is the Midwest at its fiercest. A region known for winds that shift by the minute and for shooters who shrug at conditions that would send others packing. Missouri’s rimfire community has become one of the strongest in the country, standing shoulder to shoulder with Texas. MOST is not just surviving, it is setting the pace.

What Awaits in Pittsburg

The evening before the Finale, October 3, brings the Train Up Day from 2 to 6 PM. Fifteen dollars gives shooters a chance to hit steel on a few warmup stages, and a free zero board and vendor side stages will also be available. It is the pre-game tune up, the moment to steady hands and clear minds before the real test begins.

On October 4, 2025, competitors will gather at Between Rivers Gun Range in Pittsburg, Kansas. Sign in and zero opens at 7:00 AM, followed by a safety brief at 8:30. From there the match begins, with eleven stages and up to 130 rounds fired at targets set from 50 to 250 yards. It is a demanding course of fire that blends fundamentals with the pressure of competition. When the rifles are finally put away, the story continues at a banquet filled with food, prizes, and trophies for both the match and the season, where conversations and laughter will stretch long after the scores are finalized.

A Prize Table That Speaks Volumes

Leading the charge is L3I Design Solutions, the presenting sponsor. Leon and April Weatherby are not only the coordinators of MOST, they are innovators who have built gear that reshaped rimfire competition. Their 700 Elite Rimfire Magazine, CZ 457 thirteen round magazine, RimX plus two kit, Hyve Chassis, and new Stinger Barreled Action are trusted tools on firing lines worldwide. For them, backing the Finale is more than business. It is giving back to the very shooters who helped them rise.

What grabbed me was not just the sponsor count but the quality. Rimfire prize tables are usually modest, but this one reads like a national centerfire championship. With 64 sponsors stepping up, even reloading companies are now backing rimfire. That shift tells me the industry is paying attention in a way it has not before. This Finale is not just stocked with gear, it is stocked with proof that rimfire has earned its place in the spotlight.

More Than a Match

The Finale is not only about medals or points, it is about spirit. It is about a community of nearly two hundred shooters grinding through wind and distance all season long, showing up not just for themselves but for the person squadded next to them. There is a sense of drive and camaraderie here that separates MOST from other leagues. Shooters push one another to improve, celebrate each other’s wins, and carry the banner of a region that has become one of the toughest proving grounds in the country.

That is what excites me the most. When you see this many shooters, this much support, and this kind of fire in the community, you realize the Finale is more than a regional closer. It feels like a destination match. The attendance rivals national events, the prize table rivals centerfire majors, and the field is stacked with talent that could compete anywhere. For a new shooter it is a chance to break out and see how far they can climb. For a veteran it is the stage to measure up against some of the best in the country. It is the kind of match where reputations can be made, where a competitor can step out of their region and prove they belong on a larger stage.

Looking Ahead

The Finale is not a finish line, it is a springboard. The Weatherbys are already preparing for the L3I Make an Impact Pro Am in May at Recon by Fire in Oklahoma a two day format designed to draw a national spotlight to the Midwest.

MOST shows what happens when community, competition, and commitment come together. Bigger crowds, deeper support, stronger rivalries. This Finale is proof that regional rimfire is not second tier. It is the proving ground of the sport’s future. I will be watching closely, because if this is what a season closer looks like, it will not be long before MOST becomes a destination every serious shooter has circled on their calendar.
