Billet Precision Rifles: The Machinist, The Marksman, and the Momentum Behind the LS1

This year, I’ve been working on a project that’s taken me across the country—digging into the people and companies behind the actions we trust in competition. From long-established names to fresh upstarts, the goal has been simple: find the ones where shooters are putting their trust—and winning. Sometimes that leads to legacy brands with decades behind them. Other times, it leads to the up-and-comers—the ones quietly building a name, match by match, rifle by rifle.
I first heard about Lane Shelley during a sale I was running for my AMP annealer. It was one of those offhand conversations where someone said, “You should check out Billet Precision Rifles—Lane’s building some really solid stuff.” So I did.
What I found was more than just a promising product. Between the match results, the precision machining, and the thoughtful design, it was clear Lane wasn’t just another guy with a CNC and a logo. He was quietly earning real traction in a very competitive space.
At first, I figured I was just talking to someone who builds actions. And to be fair, that alone is no small feat. But Lane? He’s doing a whole lot more. From designing the LS1 from the ground up, to machining components in-house, to racking up PRS podiums with the same gear he sells—he’s walking the walk. And it shows to.
Lane Shelley: Shooter First, Builder Always

Lane comes from a CNC machining background, and that technical skill bleeds into everything he builds. He’s also a serious competitor. With five years in the PRS and a current ranking of #70 in the Pro Series and #6 in the Great Lakes Region in 2024, Lane is climbing fast. His goal? Make Squad 1. Finish Top 10. Win a Golden Bullet. And based on his trajectory, that goal’s not out of reach.
Based out of Kentucky, he’s within range of five national-level two-day matches—and he takes full advantage of it. He also competes in a lot of the "eastern style" matches: smaller targets, constant movement, and a heavy emphasis on manipulation under pressure. That style of shooting directly shaped the LS1. “It needs to shoot in anything,” he told me, “especially Oklahoma moon dust.” The LS1 is built to take abuse—and keep running smooth. And from everything I’ve seen, Lane is proving that on the line.
Lane is not just a weekend warrior, either. Lane logs serious hours behind the rifle, testing his gear in real match conditions—not controlled environments or clean benches. When something doesn’t work, he doesn’t send it back to engineering. He walks into his own shop and fixes it. That kind of immediate feedback loop—shooter to machinist and back again—is rare, and it’s one of the reasons his products feel so dialed in.
The LS1: Designed to Compete, Machined to Win

I haven’t personally run a Billet Precision Rifles action yet—but after talking with Lane and digging into the specs, I felt like it was worth a closer look. From the machining to the design choices to the fact that he’s out there competing with his own gear, nothing about this feels rushed or slapped together. It feels like a product that was built quietly, carefully, and with a clear purpose. That’s exactly the kind of brand I want to spotlight—because they’re not trying to ride hype. They’re building something real.
The LS1 Action is the result of serious machining chops and real-world feedback. Originally designed in 2015, Lane brought it to market under the Billet Precision Rifles name in 2021 after years of doing OEM work for other brands. The action is built from 416 stainless steel, hardened to 38–42 Rockwell, and finished with a nitride coating for durability in harsh conditions. It features an integrated recoil lug, a 20 MOA Picatinny rail, and interchangeable bolt assemblies. Thanks to tightly controlled headspace tolerances of ±0.001", it’s fully pre-fit compatible—no gunsmithing guesswork required. At just 2 lbs 3.8 oz, it’s light enough for field use, but built to survive match-day punishment. From what I’ve seen and heard, the action is earning its reputation the right way—on the range, in the dirt, under pressure. It’s smooth, consistent, and reliable, even in matches that chew up lesser systems.
More Than Just Actions
While the LS1 is the flagship, Billet Precision Rilfe's lineup has grown into a full-blown precision ecosystem—built not just for targets, but for the field:
LS1 Scope Mount :The LS1 Scope Mount is a solid one-piece scope mount that is built for the competition minded shooter who can't afford equipment failure in the harshest of conditions. It is made out of 60-61 aluminum and hard coat anodized. These scope mounts feature very low-profile caps, that also helps achieve the maximum possible hold on the scope.
Self-Timing Muzzle Brakes : The LS Self Timing Muzzle Brakes are designed to be a plug and play option for any pre-existing threaded barrel. They are made from 17-4 pre-hardened PH stainless steel. The ports are designed to be a perfect balance of maximum recoil reduction without directing the harsh muzzle blast back to the shooter.
M5 Inlet Bottom Metal : The bottom metal M5 inlet is a simple design that will fit a Hawkins M5 inlet. It is designed for a snug fit with any AICS competitive magazine. It is made out of 60-61 aluminum and hard coat anodized.
Full Titanium Modular Suppressors : An all new and improved silencer that is very customizable to fit your needs!
And while many shops stop at parts, Lane kept going. Billet Precision Rifle also offers full in-house gunsmithing, including barrel chambering for both LS1 builds and other custom bolt actions. It’s not just plug-and-play—it’s precision fitment done by someone who actually shoots. Chamber jobs run $380 plus the cost of your blank. If you want it done right, Lane’s got the lathe—and the trigger time—to back it up. Every piece, every service, carries the same DNA: practical, tested, and built to make your bolt gun shoot better.
Final Thoughts
Billet Precision Rifles is the kind of company you don’t want to overlook. There are more than a few of their actions showing up in the hands of shooters who are placing well—and Lane Shelley himself is one of them. You can tell the LS1 isn’t built for the showroom—it’s built for the match. He’s not just selling the dream. He’s living it. If you're looking for an up-and-coming action maker that’s backing it up with results, Billet Precision Rifles should absolutely be on your radar.
